"Sometimes love is just across the dance floor."
Here is the story
about how I met the amazing man I'm going to marry...
When I met Greg, I was out with my friend Melony just hanging out and trying to clear my mind. It had been a really hard day since I had just moved out of my old house and was about to embark on the next chapter of my life as a single mother.
Sitting at a table looking across the dance floor My friend Melony pointed out a guy swaying to the raggae music playing and looking lost in his own thoughts and oblivious to anyone watching him. His long dreads were what I noticed first when she leaned over to me and said "look at that guy". I looked over, noticed him and then didn't really give it a second thought.
The evening went on and Melony and I were having a great time dancing and enjoying the music and atmosphere. The next thing I knew, she and I were right next to the guy we had spotted earlier in the evening and by chance instead of Melony dancing with him, It was me that ended up moving closer to him and starting to dance. We danced through the whole song that was playing and I remember thinking how gorgeous I thought Greg was. By the end of the song I had given him a kiss. I must say, that was the moment that sealed our fate.
After that song I told him i would be right back. I went to the bathroom and really did find him again on the dance floor. He later told me that he was surprised that I actually did come back over since he wasent sure if I would. We danced the rest of the night untill the bar closed and then I started to get ready to leave with Melony. Greg came up to me and handed me his phone. I thought "this guy is weird, why is he giving me his phone?!" I must have given him a confused look too since then Greg said "put your number in there." So I did and proceeded to let him know that Melony and I were headed to breakfast and he was welcome to join us if he wanted to. He decided to come with us and we ate and talked the whole time. By about 2am we were ready to head home and Melony asked him if he needed a ride. So we took him to his house and said our good-byes.
I pretty much didnt think about whether he would call me or not, I just thought the night was amazing and hoped that maybe I would hear from him again. I was really surprised when about 1/2 hour later, my phone was ringing and it was him. He wanted to keep talking like we had earlier at breakfast. We talked for a little bit on the phone but then he wanted to talk more in person. So he asked where Melony and I were staying and asked if he could meet up with us to hang out a bit more. The next thing I knew, he was knocking on her door! I met him outside the house and we sat on the front porch talking for the next 3 hours. By the time he left we had spilled our guts to each other about every topic you can think of and decided that since it was 5:30 in the morning, we might want to get some sleep. So we kissed good-night and he went home.
The next day, Greg called me again while I was at my mom's house unpacking. He asked me what I was up to for the day and I let him know that I was unpacking. He offered to come over and help me unpack! I thought it was sweet, but declined his offer thinking my parents might think it was strange to have a guy I'd just met over to help me unpack. We spent every night after that first night we met, talking at least 3 hours on the phone. We would spend time on the weekends together and our relationship grew from there. On our year anniversary, Greg asked me to marry him and we set the date, June 9th, 2009.
Greg later told me that my bold move of kissing him that night that we met, is what let him know that I was a person to take initiative in life. It is that personality trait that prompted him to call me, and what enabled our strong love to grow.
That's our story....
