Brides are buying gowns for a cause

NEW YORK -- A two-day sale of donated bridal gowns raised $160,000 for the Twin Towers Orphan Fund, with all proceeds going to help children who lost a parent in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Over 1,200 gowns were donated by designers and manufacturers for the November event, organized by Bridal Guide magazine. Loft space and fixtures also were donated. The fund itself was founded by more than 40 public relations professionals and will help provide long-term educational and welfare assistance, including mental and physical health care benefits, for the children.
"Everyone from the volunteers from FIT to the dress manufacturers should be applauded for this effort," said Barry Rosenbloom, president of the publication.
Added W. Knox Richardson, a co-founder of the fund: "The event proved to be a huge success, and the brides who supported us have given a supplemental meaning to this landmark occasion in their lives."

Wedding advice

If you're overwhelmed (as you probably are) by volumes of advice about your impending wedding, you might just take a look at some concise advice on the subject.
"Getting Married" and "Getting Remarried" are two free brochures from the MetLife Consumer Education Center that cover a lot of ground quickly.
"The brochures contain a myriad of helpful tips and advice, from how to pick an affordable bridal gown and develop a wedding budget to tackling thank-you notes in a timely manner and handling joint finances," says Pat Curran, a recent bride who wrote both brochures.
